What's happening
People naturally notice and remember information that supports what they already believe, and skip past or discount anything that doesn't — so "research" can quietly become a search for reasons to feel good about a decision you'd already made.
A financial example
You're set on a certain investment and only read the takes that are bullish on it, dismissing critical ones as "haters" who "don't get it." That's not research confirming the idea is sound — it's filtering for agreement.
