What a monthly budget can miss
A monthly budget tells you whether your income can cover your current expenses and payments. It does not necessarily show what those decisions are doing to your finances over time.
Net worth adds that wider view. It is simply what you own minus what you owe. Looking at it alongside your budget can help show whether you are building savings and assets, reducing debt, or committing more of your future income to payments.
That does not mean every purchase needs to increase your net worth, or that a higher number is the only financial goal that matters. It means affordability is about more than whether you can make the payment this month.
This episode looks at how two manageable monthly decisions can lead to very different long-term results, and introduces one useful question:
What else could this money do for me?
